What is Proscar good for?
Its main job is to treat an enlarged prostate, a condition a lot of older guys deal with called benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. The active ingredient in Proscar is finasteride, and it works by blocking an enzyme that converts testosterone into another hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a major player in making the prostate gland grow. So, by reducing DHT levels, Proscar helps to shrink the enlarged prostate, which can then ease BPH symptoms like trouble starting to pee, a weak stream, or needing to go frequently. It's not a quick fix; it takes time to see the benefits.
